700R4 & 4L60E Rebuild Kits

     For those of you interested in building your own Heavy Duty or Performance transmission, then you have come to the right place. I offer "very complete rebuild kits". My kits offer you the best of both worlds, smooth part throttle upshifts, quicker downshifts, and firmer wide open throttle shifts. I offer these very complete rebuild kits from Heavy Duty to Pro Street Elite. They come with everything that is needed. In several of these rebuild kits I offer different options.      In the rebuild kits, I have setup the options in such a way so that you cannot make a wrong choice, and I am always improving (updating) the rebuild kits. Borg Warner has released an improved version of their 29 element dual cage sprag. With a slight modification, it looks like it will do very well. It will be offered in the near future.

    The latest GM "heat treated" sunshell has proven to be an excellent piece. In Rick Abare's mid 9 second Firebird (1.24 - 1.30 sixty foot, 9.50 - 9.70 ET's and 139 - 141+ mph) he has well over 2,500 passes without breaking or stripping the GM "heat treated" sunshell. If anyone was going to break one....... I will offer these, as they are lighter, cheaper, and they are "balanced". The Beast is an good piece, but is heavy, cost more, and is not balanced. So if you want the GM heat treated sunshell in thrust washer or bearing version, you now can choose either with confidence.

    With over 31 years of experience in HD to Strip only transmission building, I have found many solutions to making a Heavy Duty or Performance transmission do the job correctly for a particular application.

    I offer the 700R4, & 4L60E, transmissions in the Heavy Duty, Rallye (Off Road), Street/Strip, Pro Street, and Pro Street Elite. All come with a "one year" warranty.

    To get the best results with the Heavy Duty, Off Road, Rallye, Street/Strip or Drag Racing transmission, we highly recommend the Precision Industries or Edge torque converters for the 700R4 & 4L60E transmissions, both in terms of performance & longevity.

 

    I offer the ATSG build books for each transmission rebuild kit, as well as the DVD/VHS videos for most units.

    I have been concentrating on the problems of 700R4 & 4L60E, for several years now, and have come up with some "solid" solutions. The following products, (depending on the application of the transmission) have proven themselves highly successful:
  • Modified version of Trans-Go's 700R4 Performance Shift kit is tailored to match the setup you have (offers much more than the 700-2-3 Performance Shift kit). Offers smooth part throttle & firmer WOT shifts [exclusive]
  • Modified version of Trans-Go's 4L60E Performance Shift kit that is tailored to match the setup you have. Offers smooth part throttle & firmer WOT shifts [exclusive]
  • Torlon checkballs in all of the Shift kits [exclusive]
  • 9 Clutch Borg Warner Hi-Energy 3-4 clutch pack (good for over 800FWHP)
  • 10 Clutch Raybestos Blue Plate Special 3-4 clutch pack Strip only (good for over 850FWHP) [exclusive]
  • 10 Clutch Borg Warner Hi-Energy 3-4 clutch pack Street or Strip (good for over 850FWHP) [exclusive]
  • 16 Clutch Raybestos Z-Pak (instead of the normal 14 clutch count) [exclusive]  
  • Alto Carbon or Red lined extra wide 2-4 band with re-enforced band anchors (use when over 750FWHP)
  • GM's "heat treated" or Beast sunshell
  • HD Steel sleeve with machined overrun piston & modified steel forward piston (reinforces the input drum) [exclusive]

  • Sonnax pinless accumulator for the forward accumulator on 4L60E's 
  • Hardened (RC52) thin accumulator pins for 4L60E second accumulators (made in Germany) [exclusive]

    Paying very close attention to details & clearances, I am able to get many vehicles in the 11's, quite a few in the 10's, a few in the 9's, and the quickest & fastest of these is a 3,560 lbs. (with the wife driving) street driven 1995 Firebird with a 2000 LS1 motor & trans, Greg Whitaker built the transmission himself using the Pro Street Performance Upgrade, and has run a best of a 9.49ET @144.6mph in the 1/4 mile. He had over 300 passes with this transmission, until he lost a driveshaft at the 1,300 foot mark. Greg has built a another 4L60E using my parts and ideas in a similar vehicle that runs 9.70's.

    Ed Wright of www.fastchip.com had used my Performance Upgrade in his high 9 second 1996 Firebird with hundred's of successful passes on it, has since changed class and now runs a TH350.

    Rick Abare's highly successful bracket raced 383ci., 3,400 lbs. mid 9 second 1996 Firebird has well over a fifteen hundred passes with my 4L60E transmission, and is now going 9.50's, at 141.9 mph in the quarter mile, a best of 5.99 in the eighth mile, with 1.24 - 1.28 sixty foot times, on pump gas (93 octane) and is still getting faster.
