Post New overrun clutch apply valve for the 4L60E Reply with quote
Sonnax has finally released a valve for the 4L60E that applys the overrun clutches in "all" manual shifting positions. The situation now is, when you have the shifter in the "D" position, the 2-3 shift brings on the overrun clutches, 3-4 clutch pack, and the release of the 2-4 band. To stop the overrun clutches from coming on and robbing oil on the 2-3 shift, you had to use the "OD" position when you raced. This new valve will have the overrun clutches applied from the beginning. Now the 3rd apply oil will be going to the 3-4 clutches and the release of the 2-4 band, and not the bringing on of the overrun clutches on the 2-3 shift. This adds to the 2-3 shift apply oil at all throttle openings. The addition of this valve can help extend the life of the 3-4 clutch pack at WOT, when using the "D" position to race. It is known by Sonnax as a "Heavy Duty 2-3 Shift Valve". On this site it is known as "Overrun 2-3 Shift Valve 4L60E".

The 700R4's never had this problem. So no, you could not use it here.
